ถ่ายด้วย Canon EOS 60D ที่ ISO 4000 เพราะลืมเปลี่ยน ISO เป็น auto เลยทำเป็นขาว-ดำเพื่อกลบเกลื่อน noise แต่รายละเอียดใน shadow หายไปเยอะ ยังไงกล้องค่าย Canon ก็สู้ CMOS รุ่นใหม่ๆ ของ Sony ที่อยู่ใน Nikon กับ Pentax ไม่ได้เลย ในสภาพแสงน้อย

Canon EOS 60D vs 7D vs 550D

ในที่สุดผมก็ถอย Canon EOS 60D ออกมาจนได้ หลังจากได้เวลาอัพเกรดจาก 40D โดยวัตถุประสงค์หลักคือต้องการ Full HD Video และคุณภาพของภาพที่ High ISO ที่ 6,400 ไม่ได้ต้องการถ่ายภาพเป็นอาชีพ อยากถ่ายภาพครอบครัวสวยๆ และวิวบ้างอะไรบ้างตามเรื่องตามราว

เนื่องจากผมมีเลนส์ Tamron 17-50 Di II และ 18-250 เม้าท์แคนนอนอยู่ จึงได้ตัด Nikon และยี่ห้ออื่นๆ ออกไป ทั้งๆ ที่ใจจริงก็สนใจ Nikon D7000 อยู่ไม่น้อย กิตติศัพท์ของ Nikon ในเรื่องภาพแสงน้อยค่อนข้างโดดเด่นน่าสนใจทีเดียว แต่หลังจากเช็คราคาแล้ว คิดว่าคงต้องผ่าน เนื่องจากแพงกว่า 60D มิใช่น้อย แล้วยังต้องเปลี่ยนเลนส์อีก

ดังนั้น ตัวเลือกก็เลยเหลืออยู่แค่สามตัวคือ

Canon EOS 7D
Canon EOS 60D
Canon EOS 550D

สุดท้ายเลือก 60D ด้วยเหตุผลดังนี้

เทียบกับ 550D แล้ว ราคาแพงกว่าหมื่นนิดๆ แต่ได้บอดี้ที่จับถนัดมือกว่ามาก คุณภาพของภาพมี details เยอะกว่า แบตเตอรีก้อนใหญ่กว่า ข้อมูลประจุดีกว่า BP-511 เยอะ และที่สำคัญไม่น้อยคือ 60D มีจอแบบหมุนพับได้ ซึ่งผมคิดว่าค่อนข้างสะดวกทีเดียว และที่สำคัญไม่แพ้กันคือ 550D ไม่มีตัวคุมแฟลชแบบไร้สาย สรุปรวมๆ แล้วคือ หมื่นนิดๆ ที่เพิ่มขึ้นมา ค่อนข้างคุ้มของที่ได้

เมื่อเทียบกับ 7D แล้ว 60D ถูกกว่าประมาณหมื่นนิดๆ เช่นกัน สิ่งที่เสียไปคือ โครงของ 60D เป็นพลาสติก และปุ่มควบคุมต่างๆ ดูจะไม่ “โปร” เท่า 7D และแต่ข้อดีที่เหนือกว่าคือ เบากว่า มีจอแบบพับได้ และที่สำคัญมากคือ 60D ใช้ SDHC SD ขณะที่ 7D ใช้ CF ซึ่งเนื่องจากภรรยาใช้ G12 และมี SDHC 16GB Class 10 อยู่หลายใบแล้ว การเปลี่ยนมาใช้ 60D จึงทำให้สะดวกประหยัดไปไม่น้อย

สำหรับข้อเสียของ 60D นั้น ที่ชัดเจนที่สุดคือปุ่มจอยสติ๊กหายไป ปุ่มปรับไวท์บาลานซ์ไม่มี ต้องใช้ Q Menu ซึ่งไม่สะดวกเท่า และ Custom Program มีแค่ช่องเดียว แต่เนื่องจาก Auto ISO ของ 60D ทำได้ดีขึ้นมาก แทบจะสูสีกับ Nikon แล้ว ทำให้ไม่จำเป็นที่ผมต้องตั้งโปรแกรมนึงไว้สำหรับ high iso อีกต่อไป ก็เลยคิดว่าน่าจะยอมรับได้ในจุดนี้

ส่วนคุณภาพของภาพนั้น ก็ยอดเยี่ยมสมคำร่ำลือ โดยเฉพาะใน ISO 6400 นั้น ผมดูแล้วสูสีกับ 40D ที่ 1600 เลยทีเดียว ส่วน ISO 12800 นั้น ก็ใกล้เคียงกับ 3200 ของตัวเก่าเช่นกัน

ภาพนี้ถ่ายที่ ISO 12800 ย่อเหลือ 900×600 โดยไม่ได้ปรับแต่งอย่างอื่น

ส่วน 100% Crop ตรง Highlight กับ Shadow จะประมาณนี้

My New D-SLR?

Just about when I was considering a new D-SLR with Full HD video, Canon EOS 60D was announced and available. Unsurprisingly it was repositioned down a bit: slightly closer to entry level. As a result, many–including me, will have a hard time choosing between 7D and 60D. Price is not really a factor, but articulated screen is what going to make a big swing. I’d bet 7D Mark II will have articulated screen as well, since it is the most obvious requirement for movie shooting.

DPREVIEW.COM just posted 60D review. The conclusion is very much in line with my expectation.

Will this be my next D-SLR? I will give it another month to find out.

Mafia Wars Moscow: Vory versus Mafiya

According to Zynga, we need to chose between Vory v Zakone and Russian Mafiya when we venture into Moscow expansion. They have very limited information for now “Will you side with the Vory, the princes of thieves and the Old Guard of the Russian underworld? Or maybe you’d prefer the company of the brutally ruthless and efficient Mafiya?” It will affect the game play later, perhaps something like the different in character types we chose.

From the sound of it, Mafiya is probably a better choice as they are “brutally ruthless” and “efficient,” something that sound appropriate for the game of Mafia. It probably has to do with jobs and businesses. On the other side, being the “princes of thieves” and the “Old Guard” should mean something as well, possibly linked to robbing or fighting.

Hard to chose. I have started as pure energy and then migrate to fighting and robbing after finishing Cuba. Right now I’m pretty much balanced between the two sides, with Daily Chance (Lotto) collection vaulted, along with the new combat formula with huge weight on equipment, playing both fights and jobs yield best results.

Now with Moscow comes into picture, I would love to see its effect on my game play strategy. So I’m looking forward to this new expansion.

Freedom of press in Thailand

Recently, Thai presses widely published tragic case of a Hollywood actor who passed away while staying in Thailand. Not only the name and his picture were widely shown, the cause of his death as well as the “blurred” picture of the scene was published in one of Thailand’s biggest newspaper. My first feeling is outrageous. I have seen this happened to Thai unfortunate victims, but never thought this could be happening to any famous foreigners. They are our distinguished guests and patrons. How could we do something like this? Then I heard the news that US Embassy was not too happy with the incident, particularly the right to publish this very news and threaten to take some action. I hope that this infamous newspaper is sued. It has been manipulating Thai people for so many years by printing misleading news, false accusations, and even outright lies. I certainly hope that it will learn the most important lesson about being press, as it is said in an action hero movie: “With great power comes great responsibility.”

Galatians

Today I taught Sunday School class, and the topic is Bible Survey–Galatians. The main theme is about “saved by grace, not law.” To my surprise, sermon today was centered around this theme as well, leaving no doubt on what God wants me to learn this week.

As usual, in preparing and teaching Sunday School, I have to learn the lesson more than anyone else. In my learning, Law is something people have created, whether or not from good intention, and we have become ensalved by our own creation.

This is perhaps human nature, as witnessed through our own history, since the dawn of time.

After persuading many to start their own blogs, I have finally to create my permanent blog. Let’s see if I can do this on a regular basis, something that is a true challenge to me. I always have a hard time doing something persistently, and making a good blog is about persistence.
